3 doubles in 8th break open game in Lake County Captains' victory: Minor League Report

The Captains' 10-4 win is the lone bright spot in the minors as the Clippers, Aeros and Lake Erie Crushers all lose on Thursday.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Chiefs 13, Clippers 4 Syracuse, N.Y., scored five runs in the bottom of the second and six in the third and routed Columbus in an International League game. Starter Eric Berger (1-2) was lit up for 10 runs, all earned, in just two innings. He gave up nine hits, two home runs, walked two and left the mound with an ERA of 7.11. Right fielder Jared Goedert hit his second homer of the season for Columbus.

Notes: Former Indian Matt LaPorta was 2-for-3, with a double, recorded his 29th RBI and is hitting .329.

AA Akron Aeros

Thunder 4, Aeros 3 Reliever Bryan Price surrendered a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, and Trenton, N.J., gained a split in a four-game Eastern League series with Akron. Akron starter Giovanni Soto struck out nine in seven innings. The Thunder rallied in the sixth for three runs on a pair of homers off Soto.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats were idle Friday Carolina begins a weekend series tonight at home against the Winston-Salem, N.C., Dash. Carolina outfielder Tyler Holt is hitting .309, good for ninth in the Carolina League. He has 24 walks and an on-base percentage of .402.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 10, White Caps 4 Lake County hit three doubles in a three-run eighth inning and won a Midwest League game at West Michigan. Nick Bartolone capped off the inning by singling up the middle for two RBI. Luigi Rodriguez, Jordan Smith and Robel Garcia all stole bases for the Captains. Rodriguez has 12 thefts for the year.

Notes: Bartalone was also thrown out stealing and picked off first base.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Cornbelters 7, Crushers 2 Normal, Ill., scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and defeated Lake Erie in a Frontier League game. The Crushers walked eight times but stranded 11 runners. Normal avoided a three-game sweep.
