Eli set for Israel job

Eli Guttman looks set to be named as the new manager of Israel after agreeing an 18-month deal to replace Frenchman Luis Fernandez.

Guttman, who is expected to earn less than half of Fernandez' $480,000 a year salary, recently recovered from a serious heart attack.

The 53-year-old has won the Ligat Ha'Al title with both Hapoel Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv and is now hoping to revive Israel's fortunes.

His his first game in charge likely to come against Ukraine on February 29 .

"Everybody knows that Eli Guttman is going to be the next Israel manager," said a board member.

"It's just a matter of time before the official announcement is made."
