Red-hot Rubens inspires Maccabi

Jake Rubens stole the show as Manchester Maccabi 3rd bounced back from last week?s humiliating defeat by Crumpsall.

Rubens hit a classy hat-trick as Steve Bentwood?s men moved into the last eight of the Feldman Trophy following a comfortable 3-0 win over Broughton.

Striker Rubens netted the opener just before the break and added another two after half-time as Maccabi exorcised the demons of last Sunday.

And Bentwood was encouraged with his side?s return to form after the nightmare defeat by Crumpsall.

?It was nice to get back to winning ways but it wasn?t easy because Broughton gave us a really good game,? he said.

?There?s no doubt that they?ve improved a lot in recent weeks and we had to fight to get ahead in the first half.

?But we deserved the win in the end and it?s good to get through to the next round, which was the main objective.?

Maccabi will face South Manchester 2nd in the next round and Bentwood is looking forward to facing Neil Collins? men.

?It will be a good game because they?re playing well at the moment,? he said.

?But hopefully our boys have learnt their lesson after the Crumpsall game and we can get back on track.?
