1. Indianapolis Colts

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has been selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the first pick in the NFL draft.

From Luck's draft profile on cleveland.com:

Developed in part under the tutelage of former Cardinal and current San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, Luck shows the advanced ability to read defenses and quickly run through multiple reads. He has a quick release, strong arm and compact throwing motion, and his low interception total speaks to his accuracy. A competitive natural leader, Luck's jarring hit on USC's Shareece Wright as the cornerback was running back a Stanford fumble Oct. 9, 2010, helped preserve the Cardinal's 37-35 victory.

Luck makes few mistakes and works constantly to improve. Tall and strong, he has the size to take a hit and is not afraid to stand in the pocket and make a throw with pass rushers bearing down on him. While lacking the exceptional athleticism of Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, Luck is a deceptively mobile QB who rushed for 957 yards in his college career, and he can make throws and accurate reads while on the run. The scouting combine only confirmed his standing as the top player available in the draft. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds - fourth among quarterbacks - and finished first in the broad jump (10 feet, 4 inches), third in the three-cone drill (6.80 seconds) and fifth in the 20-yard shuttle (4.28) at his position. He earned an overall grade of 97.0 on a scale with a maximum of 100. Luck has no clear weaknesses and could be a once-in-a-generation talent, and he'll likely start right away for the team that selects him.

2. Washington Redskins

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has been selected by the Washington Redskins with the second overall pick.

Griffin, who played only three games in 2009 due to a torn ACL, has all the tools to be an elite quarterback, but his size is a minor concern. He makes good decisions in the pocket and has a strong, accurate arm to go with his playmaking ability on the run. Griffin further impressed teams at the NFL scouting combine - his 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds and 39-inch vertical leap were tops among quarterbacks and his 10-foot broad jump was good for third at the position. He was a high school hurdler, which explains his impressive leaping ability. Teams view Griffin's attitude and leadership abilities as positives, and they are two traits he'll need to rely on heavily in dealing with the massive expectations expected to come with being selected by the Redskins.

3. Cleveland Browns (acquire the pick in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings)

Alabama running back Trent Richardson has been selected by the Cleveland Browns with the third overall pick.

Richardson chose to leave Alabama following a stellar junior season in which he finished with school records of 1,679 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, helping to lead the Crimson Tide to their second BCS title in three years. Richardson set another school mark with 2,083 all-purpose yards and tied an SEC record with 24 total TDs. He became the storied program's first recipient of the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation's top running back. He was also named the SEC offensive player of the year, earned unanimous All-American honors and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. Richardson's breakout season came after he shared the backfield with Mark Ingram during his first two seasons, totaling 1,451 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also proved to be an excellent receiver and kick returner. Richardson had 68 receptions for 730 yards and seven touchdowns in his career, and he returned 28 kickoffs for 720 yards and one TD, with most of that special teams duty coming as a sophomore. Richardson lost one fumble in his college career.

4. Minnesota Vikings (acquire the pick in a trade with the Cleveland Browns)

Southern Cal offensive tackle Matt Kalil has been selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the fourth overall pick.

He demonstrated his stellar skills at the NFL combine, giving teams a better look at what they can expect to see for years to come. Despite his large frame, Kalil ran the 40-yard dash in 4.99 seconds, which ranked second among offensive linemen. His speed and agility allow him to shift up and down the line quickly and pick up defenders in both the running and passing games. Kalil has a quick first step off the snap, allowing him to get into position immediately to either pick up the blitz or control his man on a run. That quickness combined with his size makes him difficult to beat and even more difficult to get away from once he's in control.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars (acquire the pick in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fifth overall pick.

He seemed to step up his game when it mattered most, catching 17 passes for 303 yards and five TDs in his last two bowl games. While Blackmon isn't the fastest receiver in the draft, he has the strength and the moves to create separation at the line of scrimmage and get open. He has excellent hands and catches pretty much everything thrown his direction. He also excels at leaping to catch passes without breaking stride and isn't afraid to go across the middle of the field to make plays.

6. Dallas Cowboys (acquire the pick in a trade with the St. Louis Rams)

Louisiana State cornerback Morris Claiborne has been selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the sixth overall pick.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Alabama safety Mark Barron has been selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the seventh overall pick.

8. Miami Dolphins

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been selected by the Maimi Dolphins with the eighth overall pick.

9. Carolina Panthers

Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly has been selected by the Carolina Panthers with the ninth overall pick.

As his collegiate numbers showed, Kuechly has tremendous tackling ability, but most importantly, he does it with good technique and solid instincts. He reads the quarterback well when in pass coverage and has the ability to take down larger running backs, getting through space quickly. He also has experience playing in a variety of defensive schemes. Before the NFL combine there were questions about his size and speed, but he answered both while reassuring scouts about his impressive athleticism. He recorded a 40-yard dash time of 4.58 seconds - third among linebackers - while his 38.0-inch vertical jump was third as well. He also was a top performer in the broad jump, three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle and 60-yard shuttle.

10. Buffalo Bills

South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore has been selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 10th overall pick.

11. Kansas City Chiefs

Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe has been selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 11th overall pick.

12. Philadelphia Eagles (acquire the pick in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks)

Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has been selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 12th overall pick.

13. Arizona Cardinals

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has been selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 13th overall pick.

14. St. Louis Rams (acquire the pick in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys)

Louisiana State defensive tackle Michael Brockers has been selected by the St. Louis Rams with the 14th overall pick.

15. Seattle Seahawks

West Virginia linebacker Bruce Irvin has been selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 15th overall pick.

Many analysts consider Irvin's pick as the most surprising in the first round. From his cleveland.com draft profile:

It's possible few players helped themselves more at the NFL combine than Irvin, who turned heads with his blazing 40-yard dash time of 4.50 seconds - easily the fastest of any player listed as a defensive end. Irvin's future could lie as a pass-rushing end in a 4-3 defense, although he may profile better as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 set. Either way, quarterbacks will want to keep an eye on him after he racked up 22 1/2 sacks in 26 career games at West Virginia, finally coming into his own after some rocky times during his teenage years. Irvin never finished high school and even spent some time in a juvenile detention center before earning his GED and attending junior college, then making the most of his opportunity in Morgantown. If NFL teams are convinced his off-the-field problems are in the past, Irvin's impressive rise could result in a first-round selection, although he's not without some football-related doubts.

16. New York Jets

North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples has been selected by the New York Jets with the 16th overall pick.

17. Cincinnati Bengals

Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick has been selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 17th overall pick.

18. San Diego Chargers

South Carolina linebacker Melvin Ingram has been selected by the San Diego Chargers with the 18th overall pick.

19. Chicago Bears

Boise State linebacker-defensive end Shea McClellin has been selected by the Chicago Bears with the 19th overall pick.

20. Tennessee Titans

Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright has been selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 20th overall pick.

21. New England Patriots (acquire the pick in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals)

Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones has been selected by the New England Patriots with the 21st overall pick.

22. Cleveland Browns

Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden has been selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd overall pick.

Weeden's situation would be totally different if he were the typical 22-year-old quarterback coming out of college after leading a prolific offense with his powerful right arm. Instead, he has to answer the same question again and again about his age - he'll turn 29 during his rookie season, a product of the five years he spent pitching in the minor leagues before playing football at Oklahoma State. Weeden says his age is an advantage due to his maturity, but some rebuilding NFL teams may be hesitant to invest a high pick in a player already on the brink of 30.

23. Detroit Lions

Iowa guard Riley Reiff has been selected by the Detroit Lions with the 23rd overall pick.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers

Stanford guard David DeCastro has been selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 24th overall pick.

25. New England Patriots (pick acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos)

Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower has selected by the New England Patriots with the 25th overall pick.

26. Houston Texans

Illinois defensive end-linebacker Whitney Mercilus of Akron Garfield High School has been selected by the Houston Texans with the 26th overall pick.

Mercilus is a bit undersized, but he more than makes up for it with great quickness. He showed off that impressive speed at the NFL combine, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds to finish fourth at his position. Mercilus also may have improved his stock with a solid effort in the broad jump - his distance of 118.0 inches was tied for eighth-best among defensive linemen. Currently projected as a late first-round pick, Mercilus doesn't come with many - if any - major red flags. While his final season with the Illini didn't leave much to be desired, some view Mercilus' lack of starting experience as a concern and may prefer to go with more of a "sure thing" early in the draft. He's a tremendous pass rusher but struggled at times against the run due to his smaller-than-average frame. Mercilus has drawn comparisons to New York Giants Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, and while it may take some time for him to live up to such lofty expectations, he certainly has the skill set to be a force in the pros.

27. Cincinnati Bengals (pick acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots)

Wisconsin guard Kevin Zeitler has been selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 27th overall pick.

28. Green Bay Packers

Southern Cal linebacker-defensive end Nick Perry has been selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 28th overall pick.

29. Minnesota Vikings (pick acquired in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens)

Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith has been selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the 29th overall pick.

30. San Francisco 49ers

Illinois wide receiver A.J. Jenkins has been selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 30th overall pick.

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (pick acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots)

Boise State running back Doug Martin has been selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 31st overall pick.

32. New York Giants

Virginia Tech running back David Wilson has been selected by the New York Giants with the 32nd overall pick.
