Joseph Colon pitches eight strong innings in Lake County victory: Minor League Report

Luigi Rodriguez's three hits help power Captains, Clippers and Aeros both stumble.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 4, Dragons 1: Right-hander Joseph Colon (3-3, 3.32) threw eight strong innings and CF Luigi Rodriguez (.295) had three hits to help Lake County beat Dayton in a Midwest League game in Eastlake.

Colon allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three.

Captains SS Francisco Lindor (.307) and DH Jordan Smith (.278) each had two hits.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Yankees 2, Clippers 1: Columbus 2B Cord Phelps (.273) led off the International League game with a home run and later singled to account for the Clippers' only two hits in the loss Wednesday in Moosic, Pa.

Lefty Eric Berger (0-1, 3.00), making his 2012 Class AAA debut, pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked three.

Berger was 0-3 with a 4.37 ERA in five starts with Class AA Akron before being called up.

Columbus DH Matt LaPorta (.346) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

AA Akron Aeros

SeaWolves 7, Akron 5: Aeros LF Nick Weglarz (.212) hit two home runs and 1B Adam Abraham (.294) hit one, but Akron lost the Eastern League game to visiting Erie (Pa.).

Weglarz has three homers this season, Abraham has two.

Akron starter Giovanni Soto (3-1, 3.94) took the loss. The left-hander allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out one.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats at Pelicans, ppd. The Mudcats' Carolina League game in Myrtle Beach, S.C., was postponed because of rain. The game will be made up Thursday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m.
