New road to festival takes shape

Glastonbury Festival has invested a quarter of a million pounds in road and bridge improvements.

A new three-quarters of a mile long road is being built from the main gate of the festival site to The Park and a new bridge outside Dance Village is also under construction.

Infrastructure manager Phil Miller said: "The old road wasn't good enough and needed improving. Traffic is getting heavier all the time. We have to be able to accommodate the lorries that need to be able to access the site. We have had to strengthen old farm bridges to carry lorries of up to a 45 tonne capacity, in the same way that motorway bridges have had to be made stronger.

"It's great that Michael's got such a good team to put this together in the short timescale between festivals. The quality of the work is very good and on behalf of Michael I would like to thank all involved."

Builder Nick Lintern has been following in his father's footsteps and laying the new road. His team have been working on the service road built 30 years ago by his father Keith.
