Scottish study is discussed

A first public meeting towards a government-backed study about "Being Jewish in Scotland" was hosted by Glasgow's Newton Mearns Synagogue.

Scottish Council of Jewish Communities' chair Paul Spicker outlined the aims and the head of the government's community safety unit, Richard Foggo, took audience questions.

SCoJeC director Ephraim Borowski said: "The range of experiences of Jewish people in Scotland is very varied and we are therefore delighted the Scottish government has indicated support in principle for our proposed project.

"We are gratified by the turnout, which enabled the government to hear the views of representatives of so many communal organisations. The project will be inclusive and wide-ranging and will seek to reflect the diversity of Jewish people's experiences of living in Scotland."

It is hoped the study will lead to improved services to communities.
