Jason Kipnis homers as Clippers breeze to another win: Minor-league report

Packer sharp in Aeros' win, Kinston falters in Winston-Salem, Scrappers' pitchers dazzle in victory, Roberts' gem keys Crushers' win.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 6, Yankees 1: 2B Jason Kipnis (.285) homered, 3B Jared Goedert (.197) had three hits and RH Paolo Espino (1-1, 10.57) threw five shutout innings as Columbus beat visiting Scranton/Wilkes Barre (Pa.)

Kipnis' 12th homer of the season came leading off the bottom of the first.

Espino gave up four hits, walked none and struck out four.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 6, Curve 2: Lefty Matt Packer (4-9, 5.04) threw eight scoreless innings to lead Akron to the Eastern League win over visiting Altoona (Pa). Packer allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven.

1B Beau Mills (.302) hit his 10th homer of the season.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Dash 11, Indians 6: Winston-Salem (N.C.) scored six runs over the final three innings to win the Carolina League game in Kinston, N.C.

Kinston RF Abner Abreu (.234) slugged his 10th home run of the season.

A Lake County Captains

The Captains did not play Tuesday.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Scrappers 6, Spikes 1: RH Will Roberts (0.00) and LH Harold Guerrero (2-1, 5.22) each threw four scoreless innings as Mahoning Valley beat visiting State College (Pa.) in New York-Penn League action.

Scrappers CF Cody Elliott (.262) had three hits and SS Tony Wolters (.269) and LF John Barr (.263) each drove in two runs.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 2, RiverHawks 0: RH starter Josh Roberts (6-3, 3.48) and RH closer Ruben Flores (3.24 10 saves) combined to blank Rockford (Ill.) in the Frontier League game in Avon.

Roberts allowed six hits and two walks while striking out five in eight innings.

SS Jodam Rivera (.247) and 3B Andrew Davis (.315) each had an RBI for Lake Erie.
