EASTLAKE, Ohio — After missing practice for most of the week because of an arm injury, Jordan Morris led Eastlake North to a 51-20 win over Brush on Friday.
Morris, who cut his arm during a scrimmage last week, ran for three touchdowns in the second half. He rushed for 319 yards -- a school single-game record -- on 34 carries.
"I couldn't have done it without my offensive line," Morris said. "They were there and they made the holes. That was all I needed."
"[Jordan's] a tough guy," North coach George Burich said. "He's the most unheralded running back in the state. No body talks about Jordan Morris."
Eastlake North held a 16-13 lead at the start of the second half.
Morris' first touchdown came on a 56-yard run and after a 2-point conversion the Rangers led, 24-13.
"Brush tried to stop our passing game so we rushed on them for 300-plus yards," Burich said. "Brush basically picked their poison . . . and their poison was Jordan Morris."
A few possessions later Morris scored from 42 yards out to give the Rangers a 30-13 lead.
One last push came from Brush's special teams.
Kevin Houchins Jr. ran the ensuing kickoff back 95 yards a for a touchdown, closing the gap to 30-20.
But Eastlake North's offense continued to push.
The Rangers answered with George Gresko's third touchdown pass of the game. He faked a screen, then lofted the ball to senior Dylan Coda.
Morris followed with his third touchdown of the half -- a 34-yard run -- before Mike Rinallo ran in the final North touchdown with 36 seconds remaining.
Eastlake North began the scoring early.
On the Rangers' third possession of the game, Gresko tossed a deep pass that fell softly into junior wide receiver Ben Josipovic's arms for a 33-yard touchdown.
The Arcs answered with a two-play drive that resulted in a 28-yard Isiah Wilson touchdown. The extra point was no good.
After a failed possession on offense, the Rangers' defense took the field with a one-point lead.
A few plays later, Kyle Holcheimer picked off a deep pass at the 50-yard line.
Later in the quarter, Gresko hit Josipovic for a 17-yard touchdown.
The extra point was no good.
Another Eastlake North defensive stop led to a 24-yard field goal extending the lead to 16-6.
