There were hours of festive fun in Radstock on Saturday when Santa Claus and the founder of Glastonbury Festival Michael Eavis came to town.
Santa, helped by members of the Susan Hill School of Dance, turned on the lights at the iconic miners' wheel while Mr Eavis, who as a teenager worked at New Rock Colliery in Stratton-on-the-Fosse, opened the Christmas Fair at Radstock Museum.
Deputy chairman of Norton Radstock Town Council Rob Appleyard led the countdown to the big switch-on.
He said: "It was a great event. Its success was very much a collaboration between the council, traders, including the Co-operative Society, and the museum."
Father Christmas arrived in a Victorian horse-drawn carriage and shoppers were able to watch the Susan Hill dancers, the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band and other street entertainers.
There was a carol service in the Methodist Church in the afternoon while Santa had returned to his grotto in the Co-operative store and was meeting children.
The museum's book and gift shop will be open on Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
The main museum activities close down in December and January.
