Week ahead: Turning milder - More unsettled, Dec 25 - 08:27

Some rain at times Models continue to show milder air gradually pushing in from the west next week as low pressure in the Atlantic changes the winds around to the south west. Some rain to come but high pressure is then expected to redevelop and it settled back down late next week. For the weather for the next few days click here Tuesday 28/12/10 Slightly milder and breezy today but still rather cold in the east. Rather cloudy for mist with some mainly patchy outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Quite dull with hill fog and some sleet or wet snow over high ground. Highs of 2 to 7C.

Wednesday 29/12/10 Dry across eastern and southern parts of England today but rather cloudy. A front spreads outbreaks of rain into the north and west. Most places turn dry and colder overnight. Highs of 5 to 9C.

Thursday 30/12/10 Southern parts of England will be cloudy with some patchy bits of light rain here and there. To the north it should be fine and dry with some sunshine. Highs of 5 to 10C.

New Year's Eve 31/12/10 Mostly a dry day to come. More cloudy across the far south of England, still with some patchy rain or drizzle for a time. Frosty by night. High temperatures of 4 to 8C.

New Year's Day 01/01/11 High pressure is in charge. A dry day across Britain. Some dense fog may be slow to clear the west but most places should see some sunshine though North Sea coasts may see some patchy rain. A frost this morning and again overnight. Highs of 4 to 7C. Sunday 02/01/11 The high maintains into the new year. Most of Britain will be dry and rather cold with slow clearance of morning fog and frost to sunnier spells. Best of the sunshine likely in the west. Highs of 2 to 6C.
