Llanellli bands given chance to headline stadium festival

LLANELLI bands are being given the opportunity of a lifetime to perform live in front of thousands at Parc y Scarlets in support of one of Britain's hottest girl groups.

To celebrate the arrival of The Saturdays as headliners of the first ever Enjoy music festival at the stadium, the Scarlets have launched a Battle of the Bands competition.

The Saturdays, known for their dazzling live shows, will take to the stage on May 21, and one lucky artist or band will have the chance to show off their talent in front of what is expected to be a sell-out crowd as a support act.

Around 8,000 music fans are expected to descend on the stadium for the festival, where The Saturdays will perform.

Scarlets commercial director Rupert Moon said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have The Saturdays performing at Parc y Scarlets and we've had a great response from the local community to our music festival — so much so that we've now decided to launch an opportunity for local musicians to take centre stage as well.

"This is a great initiative and comes from the huge interest we've had in the festival.

"It's so exciting for us to be hosting the first event of this kind at our stadium, it's what we've wanted to bring to our supporters and community — and what a way to start. It's a big opportunity to showcase not only our stadium but our town too."

To enter, singers and bands must submit a demo of their music, which will be judged by a panel of experts including a famous DJ, a star from a well-known Welsh band and a high- profile judge from the Scarlets.

Demos can be emailed to enjoy2011@scarlets.co.uk or posted to Julie David, Battle of the Bands Contest, Parc y Scarlets, Pemberton, Llanelli SA14 9UZ.

The closing date for entries is May 13 and the winning act will be informed the following week.
