Ben Copeland, Thomas Neal homer as Aeros split doubleheader: Minor League Report

Strongsville's Anthony Gallas has a productive day in Carolina win, Captains fall short in loss to South Bend.

AA Akron Aeros

Rock Cats 3-1, Aeros 1-4: Akron RF Ben Copeland (.193) and CF Thomas Neal (.288) hit their first homers of the season to help the Aeros earn a split of an Eastern League doubleheader in New Britain, Conn. (Each game was seven innings.)

Brett Brach (2-2, 3.90) pitched six innings of the nightcap for Akron. The right-hander gave up one run on five hits. He walked two and struck out none. Righty Preston Guilmet (3.00) pitched the seventh in picking up his eighth save.

Aeros 2B Ryan Rohlinger (.233) hit his fifth homer in the opener to account for Akron's run.

Right-hander Steven Wright (5-3, 1.54) started for Akron and threw five innings. He allowed two runs (both unearned) on six hits and three walks. He fanned one.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats 7, Hillcats 2: Strongsville grad Anthony Gallas (.244) had three hits, including his fifth homer of the season, and four RBI to lead Carolina to the Carolina League win in Lynchburg, Va.

Mudcats LF Jeremie Tice (.289) hit his 12th homer of the season. Righty Kyle Blair (5-1, 4.37) got the win after relieving starter Danny Salazar (3.75) in the fourth inning. Blair allowed one run on two hits in five innings.

A Lake County Captains

Silver Hawks 5, Captains 4: Lake County CF Luigi Rodriguez (.286) hit his third homer of the season and DH Zach MacPhee (.237) had three hits, but the Captains lost the Midwest League game to visiting South Bend.

Righty Felix Sterling (5.79) started and threw four innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk. Right-hander Cole Cook (2-2, 3.65) allowed an unearned run in two innings and took the loss.

Independent League Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 7, Wild Things 2: A five run seventh inning propelled Lake Erie to its first series sweep of the 2012 campaign.

The Crushers (10-14) have won three straight after being swept in their last series by the Gateway Grizzlies, while the Wild Things (9-14) have dropped their fourth game in their last six outings. Andrew Davis' RBI single in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie, and the Crushers added to their margin on an error, a Rogelio Norris RBI single, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.

AAA Columbus Clippers

The Clippers were off Wednesday.
