Clippers, Aeros win: Minor League Report

Catcher Luke Carlin slugged a grand slam home run in a five-run fifth inning, and host Columbus defeated Indianapolis in an International League game Sunday.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 11, Indians 5

Catcher Luke Carlin slugged a grand slam home run in a five-run fifth inning, and host Columbus defeated Indianapolis in an International League game Sunday. It was his third homer of the season. Starter David Huff (4-4) was the winning pitcher. He yielded three runs in seven innings.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 11, Baysox 8

Shortstop Juan Diaz tied a club record with eight RBI, and Akron won an Eastern League game at Bowie, Md. Diaz, who collected four hits, also slugged a grand slam, his seventh homer this season. Diaz has appeared in five Tribe games this season.

Advanced A Carolina Mudcats

Mudcats 3, Nationals 2

Catcher Alex Monsalve slugged a solo homer and starter Mike Rayl (5-7) pitched seven scoreless innings, as Carolina won a Carolina League game at Potomac, in Virginia. Closer Jose Flores recorded the final out for his 13th save.

A Lake County Captains

Hot Rods 7, Captains 5

Elvis Araujo (3-7) surrendered six runs (five earned) in four innings, and Lake County lost a Midwest League game at Bowling Green, Ky. Araujo also walked seven and uncorked two wild pitches.

A Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Scrappers 5, Tigers 4 (10)

Tyler Naquin lined a fastball into center field in the bottom of the 10th to score Eric Gonzalez from second base, and Mahoning Valley had a walk-off win over Connecticut in the New York-Penn League.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Miners 5, Crushers 4

Lake Erie stranded 13 runners in a Frontier League loss to Southern Illinois, in Avon. The Crushers twice left the bases loaded.
