Huffman homers, Huff dominates as Clippers top Red Wings: Minor-league report

Matt McBride drives in three runs in Akron romp, Roberto Perez has 3 RBI for Kinston. Lake County falls to Wisconsin, Lake Erie outlasts Normal.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 3, Red Wings 1: LH David Huff (4-2, 4.37 ERA) allowed one run in seven innings, and LF Chad Huffman (.269) hit his eighth home run as host Columbus downed Rochester (N.Y.) on Wednesday. RH Zach Putnam (2.41) earned his seventh save.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros 10, Rock Cats 0 (8 inn.): RF Matt McBride (.277) drove in three runs, 1B Beau Mills (.295) homered and LH Kelvin De La Cruz (4-3, 3.42) allowed one hit and three walks in six innings as Akron won a rain-shortened game in New Britain, Conn.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 9, Blue Rocks 1: DH Jeremie Tice (.315) hit a two-run homer and singled twice, and C Roberto Perez (.254) tripled, singled and drove in three as Kinston cruised past host Wilmington (Del.). LH T.J. House (3-6, 4.94) gave up one run on two hits and four walks in 6 innings for the K-Tribe.

A Lake County Captains

Timber Rattlers 14, Captains 2: RH Steven Wright (1-2, 3.13) allowed 11 runs -- eight earned -- on 12 hits and two walks in 31/3 innings as Lake County lost to host Wisconsin. CF LeVon Washington (.225) hit a two-run homer for the Captains.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Crushers 6, CornBelters 1: Josh Roberts picked up his third win of the season as the Crushers scored three in the sixth to erase a 1-0 deficit and the pulled away for the Frontier League victory in Normal, Ill.
