Luis Valbuena powers Columbus past Rochester: Minor-league roundup

Lake County blanks Wisconsin, Kinston, Akron and Lake Erie all stumble.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 5, Red Wings 1: Luis Valbuena (.311) had three hits -- including a three-run home run -- to lead Columbus past Rochester in an International League game Tuesday night in Columbus. Jeanmar Gomez (5-1, 2.36) picked up the win.

AA Akron Aeros

Rock Cats 5, Aeros 3: Akron starter Matt Packer gave up five earned runs in five innings as the Aeros dropped an Eastern League game in New Britain, Conn.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Blue Rocks 8, Indians 2: Kinston's Tyler Holt (.257) and Adam Abraham (.250) banged out three hits apiece but the Blue Rocks broke the game open with a five-run seventh in a Carolina League win in Wilmington, Del.

A Lake County Captains

Captains 9, Timber Rattlers 0: Ronny Rodriguez (.217) had three hits, including a homer, as Lake County cruised past Wisconsin in a Midwest League game in Grand Chute, Wis.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Cornbelters 12, Crushers 3: Normal (Ill.) built a 12-1 lead through three innings and coasted the rest of the way for the Class A Frontier League victory.
