Jason Kipnis' homer helps power Clippers' victory: Minor-league report

Aeros, Captains falter, Kinston outlasts Potomac.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers 5, Bulls 3: Jason Kipnis hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Scott Barnes pitched five innings for the win as host Columbus beat Durham, N.C.

AA Akron Aeros

Senators 11, Aeros 6: The Aeros' Joseph Gardner allowed nine hits in 41/3 innings and Harrisburg, Pa., went on to win at Canal Park. The Senators got home runs from Tyler Moore and Derek Norris.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 4, Nationals 3: Kinston used a three-run seventh inning to secure their third consecutive series win over Potomac in Woodbridge, Va. Adam Abraham started the inning off with a double and then scored on a single by Roberto Perez. Justin Toole, who bunted his way onto base, scored on a missed pickoff attempt by the Nationals' Steven Souza. Clayton Cook (4-3, 3.66) recorded the win for Kinston. He allowed three hits, including a home run, in six innings. Tyler Sturdevant got the save.

A Lake County Captains

Silver Hawks 8, Captains 1: Giovanny Urshela scored the lone run for Lake County after hitting a single in the fourth inning and scoring on a groundout by Jesus Aguilar. Meanwhile, Ender Inciarte knocked in three runs for host South Bend.
