Kinston rides early lead to win over Lynchburg; rain idles Akron, Lake County, Columbus: Minor-league report

Justin Toole, batting .293, hit a three-run double in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Kinston Indians.

Advanced A Kinston Indians

Indians 4, Hillcats 3: Justin Toole, batting .293, hit a three-run double in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Kinston Indians over Lynchburg.

With two outs and Adam Abraham on base with a walk, Doug Pickens started the hitting off with a double to left. Hillcats pitcher Cory Taylor Rasmus then hit Delvi Cid with a pitch and walked Tyler Holt, allowing Abraham to score.

Toole's double then brought Pickens, Cid and Holt home. Lynchburg came back with a two-run homer by Geraldo Rodriguez in the top of the third inning, cutting the Kinston lead to one. The win went to Kinston's T.J. House (2-4, 4.59), who allowed eight hits in six innings.

Notes: Holt went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Holt's consecutive on-base streak stands at 17 games. Holt is hitting .303.

AAA Columbus Clippers

Clippers, Pawsox: The Clippers and Pawsox were rained out Tuesday and will play a doubleheader at Huntington Park Wednesday with the first game starting at 4:35 p.m.

AA Akron Aeros

Aeros, Curve: The Akron Aeros-Altoona Curve game scheduled for Tuesday was rained out and will be made up at Canal Park on Thursday as part of a doubleheader starting at 10:35 a.m. Each game will be seven innings.

A Lake County Captains

Captains, Tincaps: The game with the Fort Wayne Tincaps scheduled for Tuesday was rained out. It will be played as part of a doubleheader at Classic Park on Thursday with the first game starting at 6 p.m.

Independent Lake Erie Crushers

Notes: The Crushers start the regular season Thursday with a three-game series at the Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood, Ill.
